Veterinary charity PDSA has listed what parts of a roast are safe for your pets and which parts you should avoid for your pet when it comes to using up the Christmas left overs

What is safe to give to your dogs?

According to the PDSA  these foods are safe:

  • Lean parts of white meat
  • Carrot and swede mash (no butter, salt or onion)
  • Boiled or raw carrot
  • Boiled parsnips
  • Boiled or steamed greens, such as Brussel sprouts, broccoli, green beans etc
  • Cauliflower

What to avoid giving to your dogs?

According to PDSA, these are the foods you should not give to your dog:

  • Anything cooked in fat, butter or oils
  • Bones
  • Cheese or cranberry sauce
  • Potatoes
  • Turkey or chicken skin
  • Pigs in blankets
  • Anything with onions, garlics or leeks
  • Currents, raisins or sultanas
  • Chocolate
